In 1972, Muhammad Ali travelled to Dublin to fight Al ‘Blue’ Lewis. A few days before the fight (which Ali won by TKO in the 11th round), Cathal O'Shannon interviewed him on RTÉ’s Encounter TV programme. They discussed Ali’s boxing career, politics and his stance on the Vietnam War. A great chemistry developed between them, and the interview became a standout moment in Irish television history.
